The two in the beginning were unashamed of being naked, ‘ha arumim’. Now the serpent became more ‘ha arum’, more wise, more cunning than any other creature Yahweh Elohim had made. So it said to the woman, “Indeed, Elohim said that you must not eat from any fruit in the garden…”
To which she replied, “No, no we eat of the fruit. Just not the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden. Elohim said we must not eat or touch it, or we will die.”
The serpent answered, “Elohim knows you shall not die, but rather have your eyes opened and see as God sees, knowing good and evil.”
The woman, seeing that the fruit looked good to eat, took and ate the fruit, also giving it to the man who was with her. Then their eyes were opened, and knowing they were naked, made loincloths out of fig leaves to wear.
They then heard the sound of the LORD God, Yahweh Elohim, walking in the garden in the “ruah”, the wind, the breeze of the day. Yahweh Elohim called, “Where are you?”
The man said, “I heard Your sound in the garden, and I am fearing my nakedness, so I hid.”
“Who told you you were naked?” the LORD God asked. “You have eaten from the tree I instructed you not to eat.”
The man passed the responsibility on to both God and the woman, saying, “The woman you made as my sustainer gave it to me, and I ate.”
Yahweh Elohim asked the woman, “Did you do this?”
The woman passed the responsibility on to the serpent, saying, “The serpent beguiled me, and I ate.”
Yahweh Elohim turned to the serpent and said, “Because you did this you are cursed of all the animals of the field, on your chest you shall go, and eat dust all the days of your life.I am setting enmity between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. They will hurt your head, and you will hurt their heel.”
Yahweh Elohim turned to the woman and said, “I am increasing the grief of your pregnancy. In grief you will give birth. You will long for your man, and he shall rule in you.”
Yahweh Elohim turned to ‘ha adam’ the first human, and said, “Because you listened to the woman’s voice, and ate of the tree when I said, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the earth, ‘ha adamah” is cursed for your sake. In grief will you eat from it all the days of your life, and it shall sprout thorn and weed for you. And you shall eat the wheat of the field, by the sweat of your nostrils you shall eat bread until you return to the earth. For from dust you were taken, and to dust you shall return.”
And the man named the woman Chava, Eve, that she was becoming the mother of all living, with birth making us to live, “chayah.”
Yahweh Elohim made them skin tunics that clothed them, and said, “Behold, the human is like us, knowing good and evil, and if he eats now of the tree of life, the human shall live forever.” So Yahweh Elohim sent the human from the garden of Eden to till the ground where he was set down, and in the east of Eden set ferocious cherubims with flaming swords to guard the tree of life.
But such is one interpretation.
