Iowa, graduating (summa cum laude) with a B.A. in philosophy in 1981.
- Attended New Brunswick Theological Seminary from 1981-1985.
Served a year internship at Brighton Reformed Church in Rochester, New York, from 1983-1984.
- Married Annette
Giles on January 1, 1983.
- Graduated with an M.Div. (summa cum laude) from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 1985, garnering the prizes
for preaching, Reformed church history, and superior student in the senior class.
- Ordained to the ministry by Classis Pleasant Prairie,
September, 1985.
- Served Third Reformed Church in Hackensack, NJ, as pastor and teacher, from 1985-1991.
- Visited the Soviet Union on a peacemaking
delegation from the NCCCUSA, 1988.
- Adopted Samuel Janssen in July, 2000.
- Chaired the Racial Justice Task Force of the RCA, 1989-1992.
- Served on the Board
of Trustees of Western Theological Seminary, 1990-1993.
- Serves as pastor and teacher of Pascack Reformed Church in Park Ridge, NJ,
1991-present.
- Represented the RCA on the Reformed/Roman Catholic Dialogue.
- Represented the RCA at the World Conference on Faith
and Order, Santiago de Compostela, Spain, 1993.
- Was among the first grantees of the "Clergy Renewal Program" of the Lilly Endowment.
- Adopted Emma Janssen
in February, 2004.
- Represented the RCA on the Faith and Order Commission of the NCCCUSA, 1995-present.
- Served on the Worship Commission
of the RCA, 2001-2007, as member and as Moderator, overseeing the completion of the RCA’s liturgy “Worship the
Lord.”
Publications include articles in Perspectives, the Church Herald, and Reformed Worship, as
well as individual hymns that have been distributed via textweek.com.
